Global Health

A Brief Description

Global health often emphasizes health problems that cross geopolitical boundaries. Several measures of global health exist, including life expectancy, infant and child mortality and morbidity. Priorities include respiratory infections, diarrhoeal diseases, maternal health, HIV/AIDS, malaria, nutrition, violence against women, surgical disease burden and chronic non-communicable disease. Major challenges to global health include a worldwide shortage of health professionals, aid effectiveness and sustainable development goals. Global surgery and global mental health are two areas of global health that have been neglected traditionally and are receiving more attention.
